La Gardner Denver è uno dei fornitori più importanti in America e nel mondo di diversi tipi di attrezzature industriali e parti ad esse correlate. L'azienda possiede oltre 30 stabilimenti produttivi distribuiti in diversi paesi in tutto il mondo, come in America del nord e del sud, in Europa, in Medio Oriente e in Asia, e uffici in 35 paesi.
L'ampia gamma di prodotti che l'azienda distribuisce comprende compressori a vite rotativa e a scorrimento, soffianti, strumenti per la produzione di vuoto e per il trasporto. Vengono però anche prodotte pompe ad anello, sistemi per la produzione di energia elettrica, per la salvaguardia dell'ambiente, per la petrolchimica, per la produzione di carta e per diverse altre applicazioni industriali. Le pompe e le apparecchiature per il trasferimento di fluidi vengono utilizzate principalmente per la foratura, la manutenzione e la produzione di pozzi di petrolio e per le applicazioni del settore.
La Gardner Denver è stata fondata nel 1859 da Robert Gardner e originariamente era specializzata nei controlli di velocità per i motori a vapore, settore che ha contribuito allo sviluppo della produzione di altri prodotti industriali come i compressori.
Nel 1927 la Gardner Governor Company si è fusa con la Denver Rock Drill Company, prendendo il nome di Gardner-Denver. Nel dopoguerra l'azienda si ingrandì grazie ad una serie di acquisizioni, tra le quali quelle negli anni '50 di Keller Tool Company e la CycloBlower Company, produttrici di ventole e viti elicoidali. Nel 1973 l'azienda ha trasferito la sua sede in Dallas e alla fine del decennio è stata acquistata da Cooper Industries.
L'incredibile espansione della Gardner Denver in tutto il mondo, che l'ha portata a diventare leader mondiale nel settore, è dovuta principalmente alla diffusione dell'automobile e al boom del settore petrolifero in America.
